Presidential Deliveries. Jimmy Carter, our 39th president, was the first to be born in a hospital. He was born in 1924. Carter’s successors, presidents Reagan and H. W. Bush were not. Seven previous presidents, including Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln, were born in log cabins, meaning more U.S. presidents have been born in log cabins than hospitals.
Alternative use. Bubble Wrap was invented by two engineers, Al Fielding and Marc Chavannes, in Hawthorne, N.J., in 1957. The two were not, however, trying to make a product to be used as packaging material. Rather, they were trying to create a textured wallpaper.
High dollar food. Movie popcorn costs more per ounce than Filet Mignon.
Sudsy prize. At the Wife Carrying World Championships in Finland, first prize is the wife’s weight in beer.
